In Orange Romania, the changes and challenges in the past years – Telekom Romania Communications acquisition & rebranding, legal merger of Orange Romania & Orange Romania Communications, increasing market pressures – took a toll on team morale & cohesion.

It was important to start rebuilding and reinforcing a sense of community by (re)connecting the employees to the company’s purpose and values, but also with each other.

The company made a bold move with an unforeseen opportunity that aimed to disconnect from screens and the digital world: its new partnership with Romania’s no.1 eco-tourist project, Via Transilvanica at the beginning of 2025.

SOLUTION

Via Transilvanica in One Day was Orange Romania’s largest-ever internal engagement initiative, designed to rebuild trust in teamwork, strengthen belonging, and boost employee advocacy among a demanding audience of experienced professionals.

The challenge mobilized 390 colleagues across 78 teams to cover all sections of Via Transilvanica, over 1,500 km in total, in a single day. Through a carefully structured journey of recruitment, training, and engagement, participants selected routes, attended health, safety and trekking workshops, and prepared together over several months, while the wider organization followed their progress through dedicated internal communications.

On September 12, the entire company came together as the trails “turned Orange”: teams shared live updates from across the country, while employees in Bucharest, Cluj and even Orange HQ Paris followed and supported them through a live broadcast hub, digital activations and the Orange Heroes community.

Built around the idea “Via Transilvanica in one day”, the project combined competition, collaboration and purpose, deliberately mixing colleagues from different teams to create new connections. Against all odds and despite rain, difficult terrain and remote no-signal areas, every trail was completed safely, making Orange Romania the first organization to cover the entire Via Transilvanica in just 12 hours.

RESULTS

The initiative delivered exceptional results in participation, engagement, advocacy and community-building, ultimately contributing to eNPS increase and reinforcing the power of teamwork across the organization.

Remember the main objective: bring back the trust in teamwork + create a group of selected individuals, united by the same experience that could drive internally trust, motivation and enthusiasm. We surveyed participants the week after the event and data proved we delivered a great experience: 98% said the event helped them connect better with their colleagues.

Surveys showed ambassadorship spiked as participants took pride in their experience and engagement with internal comms channels set new records.
